One of the delights of visiting the Cotswolds is exploring the different areas, each with its own identity. But all have those defining Cotswold features: golden stone, lively market towns and rolling hills, the ‘wolds’. Explore these English villages of honey-coloured stone and take in splendid, lively market towns. Bourton-on-the-Water straddles the River Windrush with its series of elegant low bridges beside neat tree-shaded greens and tidy stone banks. Standing back from the river are traditional Cotswolds buildings, many of which are now tourist shops for the day-trippers and visitors. Nearby Stow is another iconic Cotswold destination, located high up on the Roman Fosse Way and offering fabulous views from its position as the highest of the Cotswolds towns.
Best known as the birthplace of England’s most famous bard, William Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon is a pretty historic market town situated on the banks of the River Avon and a popular tourist destination attracting over three million visitors a year. With its beautiful surroundings, wide range of tourist attractions and great shopping, it’s not hard to see why this town is such a hit with coach trip visitors.
