Bonn & Christmas Market

The city of Bonn has an eventful past: not only was it the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949 to 1990; it also looks back on a history that spans more than 2,000 years. This makes Bonn, the site of former Teuton and Roman settlements, one of the oldest cities in Germany. It is also Beethoven’s birthplace and, as you would expect, his life is widely celebrated throughout the city. Bonn also boasts fabulous architecture from modern buildings through to a network of half-timbered and historic buildings centred around the main square and town hall.

During the period of the Bonn Christmas Market there are concerts and a daily programme of events to enjoy along with great festuve shoppng options! Shop for festive bargains at Münsterplatz, Bottlerplatz Windeckstrasse, Friedensplatz and Vivatsgasse  where you'll find everything from ingredients for special recipes to various art and craft items. You'll also find mulled wine, hot mead and chestnuts or you can purchase beeswax candles directly from the bee-keeper.  While you shop in this illuminated environment, classical symphonies play in the background. What's more, there is a 280-square-meter ice rink at Friedensplatz—a huge hit amongst one and all.

Koblenz & Christmas Market

The romantic town of Koblenz, due to its strategic importance, has seen its fair share of battles throughout history. It remains rich in Gothic and Baroque architecture, with a pedestrianised area, town hall and attractive façades.

The Koblenz Christmas market is one of the largest in this lovely wine-growing region and offers all the flavours of Christmas including a Christmas bakery where stollen and many other famous German Christmas cakes and biscuits are made in front of your eyes. Every year a wealth of event highlights are planned for the Koblenz Christmas market, all under the watchful eye of the boy on the famous "Schängel" fountain. Expect an array of concerts (classical, jazz, gospel) as well as nostalgic carriage rides through the enchanting Koblenz old quarter, a perfect icing on the cake for romantic interludes. Finally, the 24 advent calendar windows on the roof of the baroque town hall are an other sure way to get every visitor into the Christmas spirit.

Rudesheim & Christmas Market

Situated on the banks of the Rhine is the pretty town of Rudesheim, with its crooked narrow streets, medieval houses, riverside cafes, colourful boutiques and the famous Drosselgasse - a street packed with lively Klosterkellers and Weinkellers.

Set in the town’s chocolate-box old quarter, the Christmas market in Rüdesheim brings a distinctly festive feel to the romantic old town and its popular Drosselgasse lane, as 120 stalls, representing 12 countries, gather to present Christmas customs and traditions from around the world. Among a huge choice of local and global foods, try some Finnish specialities on the Drosselgasse or a taste of the Far East in the Mongolian marquee.

An absolute must do at the Rüdesheim Christmas Market is to try some deliciously made Rüdesheim Coffee, which is exclusively made with locally distilled Asbach Uralt Brandy, whipped cream and traditionally served in an authentic Rüdesheim coffee set. Of course the coffee set itself would also make a perfect gift for anyone back home. Europe's biggest Nativity scene can also be found in Rüdesheim with life-size figures which can be admired on the market square, now that is something to teel the family about when you get home!
