Stay in a hotel set in its own lovely parklands

Enjoy Kelso & the Scottish Borders along with a scenic drive along Queens Way to the Mull of Galloway

On this tour we stay close to the Scottish Borders town of Dumfries, known as ‘The Queen of the South’ and the capital of Dumfries & Galloway. This historic market town is connected by lovely russet-hued sandstone bridges which straddle the banks of the River Nith and has an interesting history and special connection to Scotland’s National Bard, Robert Burns.

Dumfries boasts its fair share of historic gems, including one of Scotland’s oldest bridges. There is also the town’s Greyfriars Church, the site of the monastery where Robert the Bruce committed his murder of John Balliol. The town has also been home to a number of famous individuals throughout its history including Peter Pan author JM Barrie and British Formula One racing driver David Coulthard, but its most famous former resident has to be Robert Burns himself.

Set in a lovely parkland location, our hotel for this Christmas holiday is perfect for our included festive package and touring excursions. Includes 4 nights dinner, bed & breakfast, welcome tea and mince pies, Christmas Day Lunch with all the trimmings, festive games & entertainment, Christmas cake competition & a visit from Santa.

Excursions will include a day touring the Borders stopping for a lunch break at the beautiful town of Kelso PLUS we have a scenic drive along The Queens Way stopping at the Red Deer Range and ending at the Mull of Galloway (that'll blow the cobwebs away!), Scotland's most southerly point...

Day 1

After joining the coach at one of our convenient local pick up points, we head towards Dumfries, making a stop or two along the way for coffee/lunch. We expect to arrive at the Holiday Inn during the late afternoon where we are greeted with a welcome drink. Check-in and time to settle in before dinner this evening.

Day 2 - 4

Enjoy traditional Scottish breakfasts every day along with free time to relax. Make sure you join us for our INCLUDED excursions to the Scottish Borders and the Mull of Galway. Festive dinners, Christmas Day lunch with all the trimmings and festive entertainment at the hotel will all serve to make this a Christmas to remember.

Day 5

After a final hearty breakfast we say farewell to our hosts as we depart for home. After stopping for a coffee/lunch break or two, we continue homewards getting back during the late afternoon/early evening.

Scottish Borders to Kelso

A picturesque country town, Kelso lies in a fine setting at the junction of the rivers Tweed and Teviot.

Kelso is full of architectural and historic interest. In 1128 David I granted monks permission to build an abbey across the water from his castle, Roxburgh. Even in its fragmented state, this is a superb piece of architecture. The spacious Kelso Square claims to be the largest in Scotland. At its centre is still the Bull Ring, a reminder of past market days.

Drive to Mull of Galloway

On Boxing Day we'll have a scenic drive along The Queens Way stopping at the Red Deer Range and ending at the Mull of Galloway.

The Red Deer Range was established in 1977 to give visitors the chance to see these beautiful creatures up close in a natural environment and around 60 red deer live here today. Whatever the weather, you can enjoy spotting deer and other wildlife from the shelter of the hide.

The Mull of Galloway is the craggy punctuation point that brings the Rhins of Galloway to an abrupt end. This is Scotland's most southerly point and from it's highest point, Skiddaw in the English Lake District is visible 68 miles due east, while Snaefell on the Isle of Man can be seen 31 miles to the south east. On a really clear day you can even see Snowdon, 133 miles to the south in Wales!
