Bristol Zoo Gardens is the fifth oldest zoo in the world, opening to the public in 1836! Over the years it has become home to many rare and endangered species and shared knowledge about the animals and their habitat. During your visit to Bristol zoo, you can see over 300 animals representing 50 species, including the endangered okapis and pygmy hippos. There are also gorillas, red pandas, lions, monkeys, and meerkats. It is not just mammals, as the zoo is home to reptiles, amphibians, creepy-crawlies and aquatic creatures too. The zoo holds daily talks and feeds for several of the animal exhibits including the lions, meerkats, penguins, seals and gorillas. When it comes to food, there is the Hide Cafe Restaurant, the Hungry Monkey kiosk and plenty of picnic areas. There are also outdoor play areas for young children too.
