Enjoy a winter holiday to South Devon with entertainment every night

The iconic palm trees could fool you into thinking you were in the Mediterranean. The coast of Torquay is scattered with beautiful piers and russet-red cliffs. Enjoy long leisurely walks along the promenade and take in the relaxed atmosphere. Make time to walk up the steps of Royal Terrace Gardens. Remember to take in the amazing sea views across the bay at night with the lights reflecting onto the sea. Add an Agatha Christie connection and steam trains and it all adds up to some grand days out beside the sea.

On this trip we have included a day to lovely Totnes and the historic maritime town of Dartmouth, and an excursion to Plymouth. You will also have time to explore and see more of Torquay.

The Riviera Hotel, Torquay

Day 1

After joining the coach at one of our local pick-up points, we head to south Devon and the lovely seaside resort of Torquay. There will be a lunch stop to Exeter en route and after we have settled into our rooms, dinner will be served this evening and you can enjoy the evening entertainment.

Days 2-4

Enjoy hearty breakfasts each morning with time to enjoy our base resort at leisure along with the included excursions.

Day 5

After a last delicious breakfast, it is sadly time to make our way home. After stopping for a coffee/lunch break, we continue homewards.

Exeter (stop en route to Torquay)

Exeter is an ancient city on the River Exe in southwest England. Dating back to the Roman era, the Exeter City Walls surround its centre and Gothic Exeter Cathedral. Exeter Castle, a Norman landmark, overlooks leafy Northernhay and Rougemont Gardens. There is also great shopping in Princesshay and Gandy Street. What not take time for lunch at one of Exeter's cafes, tea rooms or restaurants?

Totnes

Totnes is a charming Devon town with a bustling main street and a regular market (which you will be able to visit on Saturday) situated in the Dart Valley running through, The town is surrounded by woodlands, grassy fields and riverside walks. It is built on a hill rising up from the Dart. The old warehouses on the wharf have been restored preserving the character of the place.

An historic town, with its roots in Elizabethan times, Totnes has a reputation for welcoming alternative lifestyles. Consequently it is a place full of contrasts. It is the second oldest borough in England, and is full of interesting diversions for the visitor. There are museums, a riverside with steamer quay and a multitude of historic buildings, with examples of properties dating back to Norman, Medieval and Tudor times. There are 66 houses in Totnes dating to before 1700.

Dartmouth

You have to go a long way to find a town as pretty as Dartmouth. Overlooking one of the finest natural harbours in the UK, Dartmouth has a strong maritime heritage and is packed with narrow lanes, stairways and corridors, Medieval and Elizabethan streets. The town has fine restaurants, as well as arts, antiques and craft shops just about everywhere.

Plymouth

Plymouth itself combines the vibrancy of a modern city with the heritage of an historic port. Plymouth Hoe is always a big hit with visitors and certainly offers the best view in town from Smeaton’s Tower Lighthouse. In the Elizabethan Barbican are the Mayflower Steps, from where the Pilgrim Fathers famously set sail for America and the rest of the city is full of interesting and welcoming shops, bars and restaurants.
