Bamburgh & Holy Island

Take a trip across the causeway for a journey back in time!

Bamburgh is a beautiful coastal town in the heart of Northumberland, home to Bamburgh Castle which stands on a massive, 180-foot high basalt crag, giving all-round views of the coast and surrounding countryside. Believed to have been occupied for over 10,000 years the castle has evolved from a wooden palisade to the formidable fortress it is today, this was the first castle in England to fall to canon fire as the Wars of Roses drew to a close. This stunning coast is also home to the mysterious tidal Holy Island, which becomes inaccessible when the tide washes over its causeway. When it’s safe to cross the causeway, expect to find charming cafes, an ancient priory, and a castle that teeters on the coastline. This picture perfect coast takes you back through the ages to another time.
