Gloucestershire

Experience quaint Cotswold villages, serene riversides and forest scenery along with elegant Regency spa towns all in one county!

Elegant spa and market towns and stately homes preside over rolling, green landscapes. Welcome to Gloucestershire. Choose between the honey-hued clusters that make up the picture-perfect Cotswold villages or off the beaten track through oaks and beeches in the huge Forest of Dean – home to wild boar and roe deer! In the Severn Vale lush meadows lie alongside the lower reaches of Britain's longest river, famous for its tidal bore. Half-timbered, black and white buildings are in evidence and the curious solitude of the widening estuary is a haven for thousands of wildfowl and wading birds. An ever popular family day out, Gloucestershire towns will give you glimpses of regency high life and medieval market squares. This west county's lively sporting calendar is packed with high-end horse races, county cricket and even annual Double Gloucester cheese rolling. There’s never a shortage of things to do in this scenic county.

Cheltenham Day Trip

Wed, 16 Oct 2024

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Cotswolds, Cheltenham offers a wonderful mix of the traditional and the new and is a perfect place to unwind. It offers a compact yet enchanting slice of quintessential England, from its elegant Regency architecture to its renowned spas, lush parks, and bustling high street. With an abundance of independent and much loved High Street shops and incredible dining experiences from street food to Michelin starred fine dining this is a town for browsing - and sampling!

As you would expect from the UK’s most complete Regency town, Cheltenham is brimming with history. As you stroll along the promenade, it’s easy to see why it became the hip 18th century hang out for holidaying Brits, after the enterprising Henry Skillicorne unearthed its health-giving spa waters – even gaining the Royal Seal Of Approval after the visit of the then-reigning monarch, George III.

We depart Cheltenham at 17:00 to start our homeward journey back to South Wales.
