A Victorian masterpiece with its handsome historic buildings and verdant gardens, the spa town of Harrogate is one of Yorkshire's most elegant destinations. Magnificent buildings, colourful banks of flowers, broad tree-lined boulevards and wide-open spaces are reminders of its regal past. The 19th century Royal Pump Room Museum, housing the original sulphur well, and the Royal Baths Assembly Rooms, built in 1897, where the Turkish Baths are still in daily use. Harrogate is widely known for its fine tea rooms, restaurants and unique shops all based in a lovely setting. A visit to Harrogate isn't complete without sampling the delights of the original Betty's Tea Rooms, and it's no surprise that Agatha Christie chose the town as her escape when she mysteriously disappeared in 1926!
