Herefordshire

Enjoy beautiful countryside, scenic villages and ancient history in the greenest of counties.

Tucked against the Welsh border, hugged by the Malvern Hills and the Brecon Beacons, Herefordshire is closer than you think. But the wild landscapes, dramatic history, charming market towns and fabulous local food will make you feel a world away. Enjoy green space by the (country) mile, along with views that would make any heart soar. Marvel at the rolling hills, apple orchards and atmospheric woodlands. Perhaps you’ll meet the wild ponies or find a remote castle ruin with many a story to tell. Meander through the picture-perfect ‘black-and-white villages’ or tour the county’s cider and perry producers. The River Wye is also spectacular at any time of year. In Hereford itself, the Cathedral is home to a community which has worshipped together continuously for over 1,300 years, and is also home to the Mappa Mundi & Chained Library Exhibition which draws visitors and scholars from across the world. The Hereford Mappa Mundi is the largest medieval world map to survive and the Chained Library holds over 1,500 rare books, including 229 medieval manuscripts.

Ledbury & Scenic Wye Valley Drive Day Trip

Tue, 20 Aug 2024

Ledbury is a small but vibrant market town in South East Herefordshire, at the foot of the Malvern Hills and close to the borders of both Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.

It has historic streets lined with brilliant independent shops, plus plenty of places to refuel. The town is surrounded by woods, orchards and hills, with footpaths winding up to the Malvern Hills. Literary luminaries, including Elizabeth Barrett Browning and John Masefield, were enamoured with this beautiful area.

Our scenic journey also takes us through the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, crossing the Wales–England border..

Subject to traffic and travel, we leave around 16:00 to start our journey back home.

Ross-on-Wye Christmas Fayre Day Trip

Sun, 1 Dec 2024

Embraced by the River Wye, the market town of Ross-on-Wye is an inviting place to potter. When William Gilpin wrote Britain’s first travel guidebook about the Wye Valley in 1782, he sparked a trend for ‘picturesque tourism’. Today, as well as enjoying that same scenic beauty, you can browse independent shops, saunter alongside the town’s 19th-century mock-Gothic walls and Gazebo Tower folly and admire pastel-hued dwellings tumbling down the hillside to the river.

Ross-on-Wye Christmas Fayre takes place in the town centre with over 80 stalls selling handmade arts and crafts plus delicious artisan food and drink including decorations, candles, bath bombs, ceramics, jewellery, cheese, chutneys, hampers, brownies and blankets. Enjoy a bite to eat or a mulled wine to warm you up whilst you listen to live music at the Market House from local choirs and bands.

This a great opportunity to do a spot of Christmas shopping and get into the festive spirit!

Subject to traffic and travel, we depart Ross-on-Wye at around 16:30 to start our homeward journey back to South Wales.
