A fabulous weekend to one of the UK's most popular seaside resorts and to experience one of the world's largest illuminated carnivals! The history of the Bridgwater carnival dates back to the 1605 gunpowder plot when Guy Fawkes failed to blow up the Houses of Parliament. The town takes its carnival very seriously and it is reputed to be the largest illuminated carnival in the entire world, raising thousands of pounds for charity each year. Some of the floats in the two hour procession can be nearly 18 feet high, 11 feet wide and 100 feet long and are illuminated by up to 30,000 light bulbs. A truly magnificent spectacle! The Bridgwater Carnival is always an extraordinary experience and we have combined it with some wonderful weekend fun at the Royal Grosvenor Hotel in Weston super Mare. We'll even take you back via the historic city of Bath. Now that sounds like a huge amount of fun for just one weekend. Why not join us?

Enjoy a fabulous time at Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival – the UK’s oldest carnival and one of the largest illuminated carnival processions in Europe. Held annually on the first Saturday in November, this carnival takes place in Bridgwater, Somerset. Please note that this is an evening event, held outdoors and goes ahead whatever the weather! So wrap up warm and be prepared for any weather conditions. The illuminated carnival procession takes approximately two hours to pass any one point on the route and is a mixture of carnival carts (some 100ft long!), walking entries (groups and individuals), marching bands and charity collection carts. Please therefore be prepared to stand for a long period of time. After the carnival procession finishes there is a unique firework display held on the High Street called ‘squibbing’. It gets very busy in this area and squibbing is viewed entirely at your own risk.We depart Bridgwater at approximately 22:30 to start our homeward journey back to South Wales so this trip has a much later than usual return time. Please expect to arrive back early hours of the morning. Selected pickup points only for this day trip. For more information, please click here (opens in a new window).
