Royal Windsor sits on the River Thames and is home to Windsor Castle, one of the most iconic residences of the British Royal Family. Built by William The Conqueror in the 11th century, the castle was extensively remodelled by subsequent monarchs and remains one of the most impressive historic buildings in the country. The castle itself is surrounded by a warren of small streets offering a wonderful range of boutiques, shops, bars, cafes and restaurants for you to enjoy along with the impressive 5,000 acres of gardens that make up Windsor Great Park. Your included entry to Windsor Castle gives you an opportunity to discover the largest inhabited castle in the world, and the oldest in continuous occupation. It is one of the Queen’s three official residences, and is often said to be her favourite, so keep an eye out as glimpses have been known!

Windsor Castle - A Royal Day Trip

Sat, 26 Oct 2024

Home to royalty and 1,000 years of royal history, Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. It is open to visitors throughout the year. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 40 monarchs, including of course the late Queen Elizabeth II who spent most of her private weekends here.

Windsor Castle offers something for everyone, and with so many areas to explore including the magnificent State Apartments, furnished with some of the finest works of art from the Royal Collection, including paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens and Canaletto. Also take in the splendour of St George's Chapel, the burial place of 11 monarchs including Queen Elizabeth II, Henry VIII and Charles I and the location of the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England.

Subject to traffic and travel, we depart Windsor around 16:45 to start our homeward journey.

Please note: Coaches can't set down or pick up passengers at the entrance to Windsor Castle. The coach drop off point is approximately a ten minute walk from Windsor Castle. The Castle is at the top of a steep hill and the visitor route covers reasonably long distances. We recommend you wear comfortable shoes.
